Floyd Memorial’s Healthier Community Initiative (HCI) was born in 1996 from collaboration between Southern Indiana community leaders and the hospital. It grew from a desire to bring health and well-being to the region in the form of screenings, prevention and education programs. The HCI is funded by the Floyd Memorial Foundation. The Healthier Community Initiative provides programs, diagnostic health screenings and classes to more than 10,000 community residents annually. In 2004, the Floyd Memorial Foundation donated the Health Express, a 36ft. medical mobile unit which enables the hospital to take its health and wellness efforts on the road to outlying counties and events. The Health Express is fully-equipped with screening areas, a physical therapy assessment table, six hearing booths and a DOT-regulated bathroom facility.
In addition to its outreach programs, Floyd Memorial houses the Paris Health Education Center: a multi room facility with a fully-equipped teaching kitchen. The Center hosts health-related community programs, screening events and support groups.
