Floyd Memorial’s Emergency Center is a Level II trauma center. It features 43 patient rooms and houses the Violent Crime Response Team . In April 2006, the Emergency Center was expanded to include a fast track area, trauma rooms, a critical decision unit and a specialized cardiac unit.
The Emergency Center medical team at Floyd Memorial is made up of board-certified emergency medicine physicians, registered nurses, medical technicians and a number of other medical personnel to assist in your care. Our team is trained and ready to handle all types of medical emergencies from heart attack and stroke to injuries from accidents to poisonings.
Unless you are critically ill or seriously injured, when you arrive at the Emergency Center, you will first meet with a member of the emergency triage team. While in our triage area, your condition will be assessed to determine how ill or injured you are. Because we treat emergencies in the center, we must treat the most serious and critical patients first. This may mean that you have to wait to see a physician if it is determined that your condition is not as critical as another patient’s. Please be assured that we make every effort to treat all patients in a timely manner and appreciate your patience.
Floyd Memorial’s Forensic Program and Sexual Assault and Violent Crime Response Team is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals including a board-certified emergency medicine physician with training in both adult and pediatric evaluations, forensic nurse examiners, a forensic technician, law enforcement, prosecution, social service support within the hospital and community agencies and counseling services.
Anyone who has a concern that an adult or child has been sexually or physically abused, should call 812-948-7484. Our program offers 24-hour services with a nurse who can answer questions or direct your concerns to the appropriate professional. In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1 for your local law enforcement agency or come to the Emergency Center at Floyd Memorial.
