Floyd Memorial’s volunteer program began in 1963 when the Red Cross sent nine volunteers to what was then Memorial Hospital of Floyd County to help staff the information desk. Since then, the program has grown to include nearly 180 active volunteers who donated more than 37,500 hours to the hospital last year. Volunteers at Floyd Memorial assist staff, act as patient representatives and can also serve as advocates for patients’ families through the Family Advocate Program, which gives a patient’s family a consistent person to report to and gather information about a hospitalized loved one.
Joining Floyd Memorial’s volunteer family is a positive and rewarding experience. We work with you to match your interests to an area of the hospital that needs a volunteer. Your time and effort are much appreciated and we hope to have you as a part of our volunteer family.
Some volunteer jobs are more flexible while others are more structured and could require more time commitment. We are very accomodating to your schedule and always work with you to cover any vacations or requested time off you may have.
There are more than 50 areas throughout the hospital that need the help of our volunteers. Many are medical or clinical areas, but volunteers are always needed for the Gift Shop, Information Desk, Cancer Center of Indiana, and many non-clinical areas such as Marketing/Public Relations, Information Systems and Education.
We have volunteer opportunities available seven days a week during both day and evening hours.
Once you have decided to join our volunteer family, please contact Karen Langdon, volunteer services manager, at (812) 948-6734 to request an application. Or, use our online volunteer application, click here .
Because all volunteers at Floyd Memorial must go through an orientation process before working in areas of the hospital, we do not allow people to fulfill their community service requirement by being a Floyd Memorial volunteer.
Anyone 14 years old and over is welcome to apply to join our volunteer family. For teenagers, we have a special Junior Volunteer program during the summer (June - August). For more information on the Junior Volunteer program, please contact Karen Langdon, volunteer services manager, at (812) 948-6734.
